Let's get to the roots and allow for growth...

About dao

In Chinese philosophy, or Daoism, dao means 'path'. dao also stands for my initials, Danielle Adams O'Malley. I truly believe that life is a series of chapters and with each one, we grow and shed to evolve with a greater understanding of our life's path.

My post-graduate work includes nearly a decade of clinical work at community mental health outpatient centers helping traumatized populations, supervising clinicians and engaging in suicide prevention. And before all of that, I was a producer and jewelry designer (actually still making jewelry). I am also a volunteer with the HAP Trauma Recovery Network, which provides pro bono EMDR treatment to individuals suffering from community disasters.

Certified in EMDR, I am a trauma-focused therapist.  I also utilize IFS (Internal Family Systems) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help unearth the roots of your anxiety, depression and mood disorders.  I am also certified in Reiki, which is a spiritual energy practice offering healing and relaxation.  I also engage clients in art therapy and sand tray therapy to deepen and externalize the work while maintaining metaphorical distance to further aid in healing.

Many of us have varying levels of trauma that can range from emotional, physical and sexual abuse to bullying, neglect, broken attachments and loss. Together we will normalize your experience, increase healthy coping skills and incorporate meditation to provide balance to the deep therapeutic work. I have helped many clients heal from trauma and associated symptoms as well as develop assertiveness, reduce chronic pain, increase stress-reduction and anger management skills.

We will work together at your pace to help you regain an authentic sense of self, improved relationships and a stronger sense of safety.  The chapters in my life have provided me with the experience, training and academic skill set necessary to provide non-judging, non-pathologizing guidance on your path to increased insight and healing. I invite you to begin building the most amazing life you deserve.

Trauma and Its Effects

Early learners, Emerging teens and Adolescents

The effects of trauma, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, mood disorders, suicidal thoughts and dysfunctional relationships can be debilitating. And traditional talk therapy does not  always do the healing. I am hear to offer cutting edge trauma treatments that can free you from  emotional and interpersonal suffering. Healing from trauma IS possible. Our work can help gain clarity, unburden negative thoughts and reduce psychic and somatic symptoms, which in turn, helps clients get unstuck, improve self-esteem and process phase of life transitions smoothly.  I utilize EMDR in most trauma cases; however the length of treatment will vary depending on single-event or complex trauma and client's readiness for EMDR.

Anxiety and depression are hitting our youth like never before. Both school and 'in real life' feel less safe, emotionally and physically, leaving this vulnerable age group to rely on social media as a coping skill, leading to further isolation. This creative and malleable population is in need of healthy coping skills. I work with ages 5 and up to help them process trauma and reduce anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal thoughts. Let's face it, our kids are growing up in a world that is technologically curated, leading some to believe they are 'less than' during their most crucial developmental stages.  We will work to build self-esteem and help them discover and love their true selves.  A variety of therapy modalities are offered including play, sand tray, EMDR and art therapy.

Adulthood

Adulthood

I often hear from adult clients, "That was when I was a kid, it doesn't matter now" or "I already worked through that, I've been in therapy forever".  If trauma of any kind is not adaptively processed, we may be stuck in negative patterns that impede our emotional growth.

Our past, present and future are inextricably intertwined. As a result, unprocessed wounds from our childhood or major phase of life changes may be in the lead when making decisions about our present and our future. Let's work together to develop healthier relationships with others and yourself.  My work is mainly individual but will work with couples on a case-by-case basis.
